Join us this Waitangi Day for a captvating walking tour highlighting significant Māori artworks that shape the city centre of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Many of the artworks draw inspiration from Waihorotiu, the stream that carved the valley we now call Queen Street over millions of years. It was once a vital waterway, providing fresh water and sustenance to the first peoples of Tāmaki Makaurau. We will follow the flow of the stream’s historic tributaries along the volcanic slopes of Rangipuke Albert Park and the original foreshore, where we will look at works reflecting the evolving landscape since chief Āpihai Te Kawau’s allocation of land in 1840 to create the city of Auckland.
This tour is designed for locals and visitors alike who may be interested in getting up close and personal with the rich cultural and natural history of the CBD, as highlighted by artworks hidden in plain sight.
