📍 Waihī Beach Community Centre
📅 Saturday 13 December
⏰ 10:00am – 1:00pm
Council staff and Primary Health Care Ltd (PHCL) will be on site for a casual drop-in session to answer questions and hear your thoughts. The formal consultation for the proposed new medical centre is now live and open until 11:59pm, Sunday 8 February 2026.
We’ve been approached by PHCL — the not-for-profit organisation that currently operates the Waihī Beach Medical Centre on Wilson Road — to lease part of the Beach Road Recreation Reserve to build a new, purpose-built medical centre that can better meet the growing needs of our community.
In August 2024, Council’s Projects and Monitoring Committee agreed in principle to explore this proposal further, but no final decision has been made. That’s where you come in.
🗣️ Have your say
Your feedback will help Council decide whether to grant the lease for the new facility. Come along to learn more, ask questions, and share your views.
🔍 What’s being proposed?
Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to lease a 1,137 m² section (around 30%) of the Beach Road Recreation Reserve, with access from Marine Avenue, for PHCL to develop a new medical centre.
Key details:
• Proposed lease term: 17 years, with an option to renew for 15 years (up to 33 years allowed under the Reserves Act 1977)
• The remaining reserve would stay as open green space for public use
• PHCL’s concept includes car parking, accessways, and landscaping (site plan available in the documents link)
• The existing medical centre on Wilson Road is no longer fit for purpose after years of exploring alternatives
🏥 What the new medical centre could deliver
Better services – More space for specialist clinics, visiting consultants, urgent care, and managing chronic conditions. A larger, modern facility will also help attract and retain clinicians.
Support for future doctors – Dedicated rooms for medical students and GP registrars to help grow the next generation of local doctors.
Emergency readiness – Improved ambulance access and close proximity to the helicopter landing site to support emergency response.
Sustainability features – Energy- and water-efficient design, stormwater management, and native landscaping.
Come along, get informed, and be part of shaping the future of healthcare in Waihī Beach.
