As we approach Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2025, we invite you to join us in celebrating 50 years of this incredible movement.
APRA NZ has teamed up with Tai Tokerau's Taioro Studios to encourage schools, groups, and businesses to strengthen their Māori frameworks through waiata. Led by experienced Whangārei musicians Lee and Reo, sessions will be available from September 15th to September 19th.
"Waiata – Sing-A-Long" is an initiative aimed at promoting and honouring Māori culture through small or large group singing. It encourages community participation, cultural connection, and language preservation by providing inclusive opportunities for people of all ages to learn and sing waiata in a welcoming environment. This kaupapa seeks to foster a sense of identity, unity, and pride among Māori and the wider community, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand.

1. Book a private session for your group or organisation with Lee and Reo between September 15th and September 19th.
2. Or, come along to the public session on Monday, September 15th | 6:30–8:00PM | ONEONESIX as Lee and Reo take over the Giant Drop In Choir - All are welcome!
3. Flex your waiata knowledge and show your commitment to Te Reo Māori! Join Taioro Studios and Creative Northland for a Big Community Sing outside Te Iwitahi and Whangarei Central Library on Friday, September 19th at 1PM.
We aim to see strong representation from across the Whangārei District!
