The critically acclaimed documentary Put the Guns Down: A World Epidemic is set to launch a nationwide college tour, bringing discussions on gun violence, mental health, and community impact to campuses across the country. The tour will feature screenings of the award-winning film, followed by panel discussions with filmmakers, community leaders, and individuals directly affected by gun violence.
The documentary, directed by Terry C. Carney Sr. and produced by rapper Ice-T, has earned over 46 awards for its storytelling. Through firsthand accounts from survivors, families, and advocates, Put the Guns Down: A World Epidemic highlights the devastating consequences of gun violence and the need for change.
This free public event reflects a commitment to community empowerment and education. The college premiere is presented by the non-profit organization DVL (Dreamers, Visionaries & Leaders) Project and Victor Valley College’s UMOJA program. Both partners expect the screening and panel discussion to be an impactful experience combining film, music, and critical conversations about pressing societal issues. Panelists will include key cast members from the film, such as Cortlyn Bridges, Donna Johnson, Justified, CJ Taylor, and Cornell Ward, along with the film’s creator, writer, and director, Terry C. Carney Sr.
