Talk by Jill Liddington with a Q & A and Book Signing
About this Event

Dr Jill Liddington is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Leeds. Her expertise lies with women's history, especially gender and class in nineteenth and twentieth century Britain.

Jill is the celebrated author of Female Fortune: the Anne Lister diaries 1833-36. This was the book that inspired TV scriptwriter Sally Wainwright to write Gentleman Jack (BBC1/HBO). It was also the book Sally chose to take with her if she was ever trapped on a desert island (BBC R4).

We are holding this fund-raising talk in conjunction with Jill, a member of Halifax Civic Trust. Jill compares the Votes for Women campaigns in Halifax and Huddersfield bringing to lefe the story of these courageous woemn. Th event includes the selling & signing Rebel Girls, as that’s directly relevant to her talk. There will also be the opportunity to purchase signed copies of her book As Good as A Marriage: Anne Lister diaries 1836-38.

The event will be held at The Albany Club at Hope Hall 57 Clare Rd, Halifax HX1 2JP which has connections to Anne Lister by being home to Christopher Rawson her coal rival.
The event starts at 18.30 with a 40 minute talk followed by Q&A. There are refreshments of Tea & Coffee and biscuits with a licenced bar open from 5.30.

This is a Fund raising event and Tickets are now on sale at £15.00 with the proceeds going towards Halifax Civic Trust supporting thier work in the Town.

This event is open to members of the public including members of Halifax Civic Trust.

We welcome people to come and enjoy this event and support our work.

Doors will open at 5.30 to enable visitors to purchase drinks, view the buildings archives and take thier seat. Please arrived by 6.15pm as the event will commence prompty at 6.30pm.
