Article 18:
Shall the Town vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) for the purpose of assisting with the maintenance and renovations to the public playground and park at the Field of Dreams.
❓Is Article 18 supported by the Town?
This petition is voted with RECOMMENDATION from the Salem Budget Committee.
This means Salem Budget Committee SUPPORT Field of Dreams and would like the park to receive the $10,000.

❓Why support Article 18 on March 11th?
Parks and playgrounds aren’t luxuries — they’re essential infrastructure.
The park should be included in the town's recreation budget, but instead is positioned as a separate non-profit, but it still is TOWN PROPERTY .
Funding helps our Board deliver a great park experience to YOU and your FAMILY .
Park revenue helps with maintenance (plowing, grass cutting, park repairs, etc.) and operational fees (water bill for misting station, insurances, electricity for park lights, website hosting, etc.).
❓Has Field of Dreams asked for money from the Town of Salem before?
Last year the Board asked for $10,000 to offset the lost revenue from not holding 2025 Family Fun Day as Field of Dreams was the host site for 2025's SALEMBRATION.
The bulk of the park's funding comes from donations, specifically sponsors. We feel sponsor money should be used for Concerts and Movie Nights and other special events — not maintenance.
In 2025, the park has received these upgrades:
🌳$14k tree removal and trimming
🧱$14k on extending the brick walk
🐝Pest removal (less bees)
🚗Upgraded parking signage
🌿Landscaping ($$$$)
🔒 Security upgrades, such as the parking lot to dissuade nefarious activity
🛝In the works is $18k of safety upgrades to the playground structure, including replacing all the chains with steel cable encased in nylon rope
$48,547.07 in repairs and upgrades that was all SAFETY related.
Field of Dreams is now turning to our community for YOUR voting support on March 10th!
❓Why does Field of Dreams request financial assistance this year?
Field of Dreams needs assistance this year because it is town-owned but not funded like a town park, leaving the nonprofit to cover essential maintenance and operating costs on its own.
In 2025, the park invested over $48,000 in critical safety repairs and upgrades, while sponsor donations are intended for community events — not basic upkeep.
