About this Event
Join us on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 12-1:15pm at the William S. Boyd School of Law in Room 112 or on Zoom for virtual viewing of this month's Indian Nations Gaming & Governance programming: Vote: A Tool for Social Justice in Indian Country.
Native Americans have long faced challenges in securing their voting rights due to a history of racism and struggle. While the Voting Rights Act of 1965 marked progress, discriminatory practices persist today despite ongoing legislative efforts. We will learn more about the complexities, obstacles as well as legislative and engagement efforts from the esteemed panel.
The panel will be moderated by San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Professor Addie Rolnick of the William S. Boyd School of Law and feature esteemed panelists: Nevada Assemblywoman Shea Backus (Cherokee), Saundra Mitrovich of Native American Rights Fund and Native Counts Coalition (Tyme and Yahomee Maidu), and Margaret Faliano, Associate Director of Advocacy & Engagement at Illuminative (Chippewa Cree).
Lunch will be provided to in-person attendees, so please register to allow us for an accurate meal count.
