Join us for a hands-on conservation workday at the beautiful Ochlawaha Bog Preserve! We’ll be focusing on removing woody invasive species, including privet, autumn olive, oriental bittersweet, multiflora rose, and Bradford pear. Help us protect the preserve’s rare native plant communities with this fun volunteer day!
Meeting Location:
We’ll gather at Mud Creek Baptist Church and take a very short carpool to the preserve entrance.
What to Bring:
•Loppers and/or handsaws (if you have them)
•Work gloves (gardening gloves preferred)
•Sturdy hiking shoes
•Sun protection
•Weather-appropriate layers
•Water and lunch
What We’ll Provide:
•A handful of loppers
•Nitrile gloves (for those who don't have their own work gloves)
Optional Guided Hike:
After the workday, we’re offering an optional guided hike through the wetland complex for those who are interested. This is a great opportunity to explore the wetland habitats up close and see some of the preserve’s unique ecosystems. Please note that tall muck boots are required for this hike. The guided hike is limited to volunteers who sign up for the day, and we’ll provide additional details in-person.
The work area is flat and dry, making this a great volunteer opportunity for all comfort levels. We hope you’ll join us for a rewarding day of stewardship and community!
