Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Training

The Middle Spring Watershed Association recently received a South Mountain Partnership Grant to expand their monitoring scope so that they can be better informed about the water quality across our watershed and so that they can update the Watershed Improvement Plan in the coming year.
With that in mind, please join us on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Furnace Run Nature Park (near Mainsville) for a hands-on training session where volunteers will learn how to collect water samples, measure key water quality parameters, and contribute to ongoing efforts to assess and improve the health of our local streams.
No prior experience is necessary! Whether you're a student, community member, or simply interested in protecting our local waterways, we welcome your participation.
Interested in joining us? Please complete our brief registration form so we can plan accordingly: https://forms.gle/SyHhSJFhQUzW7PhE7
Additional details about the training time and location will be shared with registered participants, but here is a tentative agenda:
Welcome & Introductions: Overview of MSWA, watershed health, and volunteer monitoring program.
Water Quality Fundamentals: Key indicators of stream health, sources of pollution, and the importance of routine monitoring.
Monitoring Equipment & Methods: Hands-on training with field instruments, water sampling techniques, and quality assurance procedures.
Field Demonstration: Practice collecting water quality measurements and samples at a local stream.
Data Recording & Reporting: Documenting observations, submitting results, and maintaining consistent monitoring records.
Next Steps: Volunteer assignments, monitoring locations, sampling schedules, and questions.
We look forward to working with you to make a difference in our local watersheds!
