Volunteer Service Project Friends of Father Dickinson Cemetery
About this Event
Help preserve an important piece of African American and St. Louis history by volunteering at Father Dickson Cemetery, one of Missouri’s most significant historic African American cemeteries. Established in 1903, it is the final resting place of thousands, including Civil War veterans, community leaders, and Reverend Moses “Father” Dickson, an abolitionist and advocate for equality.
When: Third Saturday of each month through November, 9:00–11:30 AM
Come once or all summer—every volunteer helps.
Service Opportunities:
● W**d eating around headstones (especially needed)
● Picking up branches and debris
● General clean-up and beautification
Bring if you can:
● Work gloves
● Safety glasses (for W**d eating)
● W**d eater (charged batteries or fuel)
● Water
All individuals, families, youth groups, scouts, and church groups are welcome. Service hours available. Stay as long as you can—every effort matters.
