About this Event
Japanese Stilt Grass is a fast growing ground cover that out-competes natives plants in the forest, causing fewer of our native plants to thrive and survive in their habitat. This invasive plant has become a harmful nuisance to Widewater's forests and we need your help to try and reduce it's impact!
Japanese Stilt Grass does not have thorns and is easily removed from the ground, but you are encouraged to bring gardening gloves for general safety. Trash bags will be provided. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather, wear closed-toed shoes, and bring a water bottle.
Children are welcome to participate as not only will y'all be helping to clean up the park, but will also be able to enjoy the beautiful Autumn weather!
Registered volunteers do not have to pay the daily parking fee when volunteering. You must sign-in at the Visitor Center to receive a volunteer tag to put in your windshield. If you have not registered to volunteer at Virginia State Parks, you can do so .
If you have any questions, you can call the Widewater Visitor Center at (540)288-1400.
