Make a real difference in a young person's life
Every young person deserves someone they can trust. Someone who listens, encourages them and simply enjoys spending time together.
At , our volunteer befrienders provide exactly that. By spending regular time together, they help children and young people feel listened to, valued and more confident, while creating positive memories and opening up new experiences.
If you've ever thought about volunteering but aren't sure what's involved, this relaxed one-hour information session is the perfect place to start.
What is befriending?
Befriending is about being a trusted, reliable adult who spends regular time with a young person, building a genuine friendship through everyday activities and shared experiences.
Volunteer befrienders usually spend a couple of hours with their young person every week or fortnight. They might go for a walk, visit a café, play sports, get creative or simply spend time chatting together. Often, it's these ordinary moments that have the greatest impact.
You'll be carefully matched with a young person based on shared interests, personalities and preferences, and we'll provide full training and ongoing support throughout your volunteering journey.
During the session you'll:
- Learn about Befriends and the young people we support.
- Find out what volunteering as a befriender involves.
- Learn about our training, support and volunteer expenses.
- Meet some of our current volunteer befrienders and hear about their experiences.
- Have plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
- Find out about the application process if you decide you'd like to take the next step.
No pressure, just information
There is no obligation to volunteer after attending.
This session is simply an opportunity to meet the Befriends team, hear from current volunteers, ask questions and decide whether befriending is right for you.
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided.
