Volunteer with Grassroots Ecology by participating in habitat restoration at Stulsaft Park!
About this Event

Volunteer with Grassroots Ecology to support biodiversity at Stulsaft Park! During our time together, we will hike on uneven and steep terrain to access an invasive woody plant called cotoneaster. We will use hand tools to cut and remove these target shrubs, and then, after our restoration activity, we'll enjoy a guided walk in nature.

Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Stulsaft Park page to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations.

Waivers/Registration: All volunteers attending the workday must be registered individually and have approved the online waiver through this Eventbrite page. Youth under 18 must have their legal guardian approve the waiver on their behalf. Volunteers age 12 and under require an accompanying adult.

Meeting Space: Meet by the native plant and animal mural/storage unit at the lower entrance to Stulsaft Park. The work area will be less than a ten-minute walk from the meeting spot.

There are multi-user gendered restrooms, about an eight-minute walk from the meeting spot. There are single-user gendered bathrooms by the Farm Hill Entrance/playground, about an eight-minute walk from our work area. Multiple drinking fountains are available. There is cell service in some areas of the park. Volunteers may encounter off-leash dogs while we work. Please do not bring dogs/animals to this community event.

Prepare for Exploring Outdoors:

  • Reusable water bottle, filled
  • Snacks, if desired
  • Long pants, long sleeves recommended
  • Sturdy closed-toed shoes
  • Rain gear/boots
  • Epi-Pen or allergy medicine, if applicable
  • Plan for potential exposure to the sun, poison oak, and limited cell service.

We will provide gloves, tools, and snacks.

Transportation for Stulsaft Park: The lower entrance to Stulsaft Park is mainly accessible via car and bike, but the 278 samTrans bus goes to the Farm Hill entrance of Stulsaft Park. If taking the bus, get off at Farm Hill & Glennan Dr. stop and then walk through the park to get to the lower entrance meeting space.
If driving and parking please give yourself ten minutes to park and walk to the meeting spot. There is street parking for cars near Goodwin Ave. and Mitchell Way (there is no parking on Recreation Way).

Event Cancellations:

We are committed to the safety of our staff and attendees. If we must cancel an event due to extreme weather conditions or poor air quality, a Grassroots Ecology staff person will reach out via email no later than 5:00 PM the day before this event.
