Description

Get your hands dirty (in the best way!) and help us spruce up Hope Garden on July 30 from 10 AM–1 PM at 26715 Military Rd S, Kent (St. Columba’s Episcopal Church)—there’s plenty of parking, so just show up ready to dig in! We’ll be tackling weeding, removing stubborn blackberry bushes, and picking up trash to keep this community space thriving. It’s a great chance to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, and make a visible impact alongside a fun, hardworking group—no green thumb required, just a willingness to jump in! 🌱

Purpose

Clearing and cleaning up Hope Garden will improve farmers' shared spaces resulting in better crop yields that can be sold at the Tukwila Village Farmers Market.

Role

We'll be doing weeding, removing blackberries, and some general garden clean up.

Vibe

Outdoors, summer activity

Pro Tips

Remember to bring plenty of water and food you might want to munch on. Also wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Location

Here's an excerpt about their program from the IRC's webpage:
"The New Roots in Seattle program is part of IRC’s Health and Wellness umbrella. New Roots has developed services and infrastructure aimed at engaging low-income families in urban agriculture, nutrition education, and healthy food access navigation. New Roots builds on the agricultural experience of many new refugee and immigrant families by providing access to land, materials, and education for program participants to grow healthy food for themselves and their communities."
