"A Half Century Home: 50 Years of Hmong Resettlement in Eau Claire," a documentary film by Volume One. 50 years ago, Eau Claire welcomed its first Hmong refugee family. Today, some 3,000 Hmong people call Eau Claire home. They are the second largest ethnic population in the county following caucasians, and are educators, farmers, lawyers, nonprofit leaders, entrepreneurs; our neighbors.
This 35-minute film offers an honest, multigenerational look at our neighbors’ journey through personal one-on-one interviews, historic video and photography, local event footage and more. This story has never been told before. Not in this way.
The film premiere, free for all to attend (RSVP required) thanks to The Pablo Foundation, will be held at The Pablo Center at the Confluence on Thursday, April 16. Doors will open at 6:30pm, the film will begin at 7pm. RSVP by following the ticket link.
This project could not have been made without the incredible partnership of the Eau Claire Area HMAA and the Hmong Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce.
Further, this film's production wouldn't have been possible without the support from our select local sponsors: Northwestern Bank, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Deborah Becker Insurance & Financial Services, Inc., Chippewa Valley Technical College and Royal Credit Union.
