Calling all curious minds, from young explorers to the young at heart. Have you ever wondered why Tāmaki Makaurau has so many volcanoes? Curious why some volcanoes erupt with lava flows and others with large explosions? Have you ever found an interesting rock and wondered what it is?
Join the DEVORA (DEtermining VOlcanic Risk in Auckland) team for fun, interactive volcano experiments for the 2026 Auckland Heritage Festival!
You can expect to partake in explosive eruption and lava-flow experiments/demonstrations, and explore a display of rocks and minerals from the Auckland Volcanic Field and beyond. Come chat with volcano scientists and geologists from Waipapa Taumata Rau (The University of Auckland), to learn and ask questions about volcanoes, earthquakes, rocks and the natural world.
