About Dr. Everett McCorvey

Dr. Everett McCorvey, tenor, is a native of Montgomery, Alabama, and a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he received his degrees, including a Doctorate in Musical Arts. He has given performances at the Metropolitan Opera, Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall, Teatro Comunale, Florence, Italy, Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, England, and in over 23 countries. With Opera Columbus, he recently conducted Carmen and led the OC All-Star Master Class Concert at the Lincoln Theatre. In February 2024, Dr. McCorvey was appointed as Opera Columbus’ Principal Guest Conductor.

He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the American Spiritual Ensemble, and he is the Artistic Director of the National Chorale of New York City. Everett is the Chairman of the Kentucky Arts Council and nationally, he is an advisory panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts. He holds the position of the OperaLex Endowed Chair of Opera Studies and Professor of Voice at the University of Kentucky.

About King Arts Complex

Our mission: The Martin Luther King Jr. Performing and Cultural Arts Complex connects community through the arts.

Our vision: To be the preeminent culture and arts institution in Ohio preserving, producing, and presenting the cultural expressions of African Americans.

Our programs: We engage central Ohio through performing, cultural and educational programs of high artistic merit that increase and disseminate knowledge regarding the vast and significant contributions of African-Americans to the culture and history of America and the world.

Our history: Opened in March 1987, The King Arts Complex is located on the near East side of Columbus, Ohio, in one of the oldest areas of African-American life in the city. Serving as a major anchor for development in the King-Lincoln District, The King Arts Complex is an oasis for cultural and educational activities as well as community facility for special events.


About Urban Strings Columbus

Mission: Urban Strings Columbus recruits and supports underserved, urban, African American, and Minority Youth to become string musicians.

Purpose: To share and perform all genres of music, from Classical, Sacred, R&B, Hip hop, and contemporary music, including music by African American composers and arrangers.

To enrich and inform our greater community of the beauty of all genres of music, performed on string instruments.

Urban Strings Columbus (USC), founded in 2007, was created to recruit and support underserved minority youth to play string instruments. In 2018, USC earned 501 3c status.

Urban Strings Columbus is organized in two tiers that allow students to experience string performance from intermediate, and advanced levels. The two levels include:

​Half Notes: Intermediate musicians who are more familiar with their instruments, yet not ready to perform at an advanced level.

​Premier Group: Advanced musicians who have played their instruments for three or more years who can perform advanced string literature.

USC is pleased to showcase our string program along with our talented student musicians who attend public, private, charter, and parochial schools throughout Central Ohio. Having performed for audiences all across the country, Urban Strings Columbus is committed to continually bringing inspiration to audiences everywhere. We look forward to performing for you, as we are motivated by the phrase.


About the Lincoln Theatre Artists Incubation Program

In keeping with the Lincoln Theatre’s mission of developing local, emerging artists, the Lincoln and the Greater Columbus Arts Council have partnered to offer the Expand Your Horizon Incubation Program, a Lincoln signature program that will allow select local artists the opportunity to learn the business side of artistry and polish their craft.
