Viva Cinco de Mayo!. Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, a pivotal moment during the Second French Intervention in Mexico. While the victory was temporary—the French eventually occupied Mexico City—it remains a powerful symbol of Mexican resistance and cultural pride. This struggle for freedom is expressed through this elaborate dance performance—a stand against foreign domination and a celebration of liberation from the French yoke—which commemorates the end of foreign oppression, symbolizing Mexico's sovereignty and freedom. In our production # 80 on 26 years, Mexico 2000 Ballet Folklorico will perform Huapangos Norteños from Coahuila, Nuevo Leon Linares, Sones Huastecos from Tamaulipas, a Wedding in Chilapa Guerrero, Bailes de Mocorito Sinaloa, Nayarit Costa, a Palenque in Jalisco and, a special representation with dances from Puebla!!
