About this Event

ND Community Connectors CIC is pleased to welcome Kath Drave, from Sensory Smart Child Therapies, for an informative workshop designed for parent‑carers of children with social communication differences.

Kath is a specialist Speech and Language Therapist and her workshop will explore how visual supports can be used to enhance understanding, reduce anxiety, and support communication in everyday situations.

Parents will learn about a range of visual strategies including objects of reference, and visual cues, and how these can help children understand routines, expectations, and transitions more effectively.

A key focus of the workshop will be understanding the difference between child voice and adult voice visuals. Parents will learn how visuals can be presented from the child's perspective (e.g. I want to go outside) , compared with adult-directed visuals (e.g., "It's time to go outside") which communicate expectations and instructions. We will discuss when and why each approach may be helpful and how to use both effectively to support learning and communication.

Unfortunately, we do not have childcare facilities. This is a session for adults only so please make alternative arrangements for childcare during the workshop.
