Author Joe Samuel Starnes and illustrator Lee Allen Wells will be visiting Elbert County Public Library on May 30, 2026. Mr. Starnes is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he studied journalism; he went on to obtain graduate degrees in English and Creative Writing. Starnes is the author of four books, including the novel Fall Line, recently released in paperback by the University of Georgia Press imprint NewSouth Books.
Named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's "A Year in Reading: Best of the South" list (2012), Fall Line is a story of land grabs, wounded families, bitterness, hypocrisy, violence, and revenge in the changing South. Set in 1955, the novel centers on the building of a dam and the creation of a lake that will submerge a forgotten crossroads and thousands of acres of woodlands in rural Georgia.
The 2026 paperback edition features new cover art, illustrated by local artist Lee Allen Wells, who currently oversees the art program at Elbert County Comprehensive High School.
Starnes and Wells will be featured in a special Visiting Authors program at Elbert County Public Library, where they will discuss their crafts. Readers are invited to attend the talk, which will begin at 11:00 A.M on Saturday, May 30.
