Join us for a visit to Historic Richmond Town on Staten Island for Old Home Day(https://www.historicrichmondtown.org/events/old-home-day). Entry is free and features demonstrations of historic 19th-century trades, Including tinsmithing, blacksmithing, carpentry, chair caning, broom making, candle making, basket making, and more.
Historic Richmond Town(https://www.historicrichmondtown.org/aboutus) is described as an open-air museum with living history. For nearly two centuries, Richmond Town served as the county seat of Staten Island. The County Courthouse and historic buildings date back to the 1800's and several structures date all the way back to the early 1700's.
Old Home Day will feature musical acts, as well as freshly baked bread, soup, apple cider, and crafts.
MEET: 10:15 a.m. at the Whitehall Staten Island Ferry (Manhattan) near restrooms on the upper level of the terminal. We’ll take the 10:30 a.m. ferry and at 10:55 a.m. dash to Bus S74 on Ramp C in St. George Ferry Terminal. (Use restrooms on ferry.) Bus ride takes approximately 45 minutes.
Drivers have free parking behind the courthouse. Plan to meet the group inside the courthouse which is the visitors center and has a gift shop. The group should arrive around 11:45 am. If you don't find us at the visitor's center, our first stop is lunch at the rec center picnic tables at the intersection of Center & St. Patricks Streets.
BRING: Water, snacks, lunch. When we arrive, we'll have lunch and use nearby restrooms in the Courthouse where you'll also find maps and a gift shop. Purchase of food can be very slow and we recommend bringing your own.
ENTRY: Free and open to the public.
END: We’ll take the S74 bus back to the St. George Ferry. (Group departure time to be decided at group’s convenience; bus is available anytime.)

Take the Great Saunter Fall Challenge. Register here(https://shorewalkers.org/join-a-saunter/) to walk 32 miles in 16 days starting October 4. Registration is only $10 ($8 for members), and Shorewalkers will donate all fees to the Carl Schurz Park Conservancy(https://www.carlschurzparknyc.org/), the dedicated caretakers of the park’s beautiful gardens and lawns. This walk will count for 3 miles of your total. You do not have to participate in the Fall Challenge to join the walk—all members are welcome.
