Learn to mend your clothes in this beginner-friendly, hands-on, social workshop, hosted at the Northeast Public Library! We'll introduce common mending techniques and the philosophy behind visible mending, as well as the common tools and materials found in a mending kit. Participants will get practice with different stitches by making a small pouch to hold their own travel mending kit to take home. Techniques we'll cover include: patching, darning, embroidery, sewing on a button, covering stains & small holes, finishing fabric edges, and using a sewing machine.
The majority of class time will be open work time during which participants can choose which techniques to practice and are encouraged to learn from each other and ask questions, with several instructors on hand to demonstrate mending styles and provide one-on-one assistance. Participants are welcome to bring their own sewing machines and mending projects.
