Meeting the Mental Health Needs of Veterans in 2024: Insights from Research and Practice at Cohen Veterans Network

Cohen Veterans Network, Inc. (CVN) is a not for profit network of 24 mental health clinics across the US serving military members, veterans and their family members with a mission to improve mental health outcomes and quality of life for members of the military community. The CVN Institute for Quality (CVN-IQ) was established in 2022 to support the network as a continuously learning and growing mental health system and to advance the field of veterans’ mental health care.

This presentation will provide a brief overview of mental health issues and challenges faced by veterans in CA and across the US related to:

• Getting upstream to support veterans’ mental health
• Identified Needs and available resources for veterans
• Social drivers and risks to health/wellness
• Suicide prevention and intervention
• Issues affecting veteran women and minoritized veterans

About David Linkh:

David Linkh, LCSW, PhD has served as the inaugural Director, Institute for Quality, Cohen Veterans Network (CVN) since Nov 2021. In this role, he is responsible for improving mental health outcomes and quality of life for service members, veterans and their family members through research and innovation and building the CVN research portfolio. Dr. Linkh held progressively responsible clinical, research and command jobs in the US Air Force for over 26 years prior to his retirement in 2021. Past and current research focus areas include psychological trauma/PTSD, family violence/maltreatment, suicide prevention, resilience, translational research and implementation science.
