Psychopharmacology for Non-Medical Psychotherapists with Dr. Elon Richman, M.D.
Thursday, May 1st and 8th, 2025 from 11:00am-12:45pm
This course provides non-medical psychotherapists with a foundational understanding of psychopharmacology to enhance collaboration with prescribing providers and support their clients more effectively. Topics include an overview of commonly prescribed medications for mood, anxiety, psychotic, and substance use disorders, their mechanisms of action, potential side effects, and clinical considerations. Participants will leave with practical tools to integrate psychopharmacology knowledge into their therapeutic practice.
About Presenter:
Dr. Richman is board certified in both general and addiction psychiatry, with expertise in the treatment of substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychotic disorders and attention deficit disorder. In his private practice, he is dedicated to helping individuals enhance their self-awareness and self-regulation through evidence-based treatments that integrate psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, mindfulness and lifestyle interventions. There are many paths to healing and Dr. Richman’s treatment philosophy emphasizes the transformative power of a collaborative relationship to guide clients toward growth and lasting insight.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Richman is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He completed general psychiatry residency training at Emory School of Medicine, with supplemental certifications through the Emory Psychoanalytic Institute and Institute for Dialogic Practice. Dr. Richman completed addiction psychiatry fellowship training at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and, as faculty, continues to teach on issues related to substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. His scholarly work addresses the emerging field of psychedelics, with academic publications featured in journals such as The American Journal of Psychiatryand Journal of Addiction Medicine.
