Violet and the Newsroom is an acoustic folk string band out of the heart of Kentucky. Folk and old-time music hinges on aural tradition- learning and connecting to music by ear. Violet and the Newsroom embrace that, breathing new life into every fiddle tune and classic cover. Violet (Lexington, Kentucky) primarily plays fiddle, and the Newsroom- Anabel (Carlisle, Kentucky) and Clay (Frankfort, Kentucky)- each keep rhythm on the bass and dulcimer. All three are vocalists and multi-instrumentalists. They're easy to find at a square dance or old-time festival, and this month, you can find them at Rebel Rebel!(Why “Violet and the Newsroom“? First, because the band is fiddle-forward; second, because Anabel and Clay both work in the public radio world. Radio lives!)
