The public is invited to attend a vintage base ball game between Deadwood and Lead. In celebration of both towns’ 150th anniversaries, the teams will play using 1877 to 1885 rules. The two-part series begins in Deadwood on Sunday, June 14, with the second game taking place during Lead’s Gold Camp Jubilee and Independence Celebration on July 5.
The June 14 event at Ferguson Field in Deadwood will begin with a Flag Day Ceremony at 3 p.m., conducted by the Deadwood Elks Lodge 508. Additional entertainment will be provided by the Northern Bills Brass Band, with the game starting at 4 p.m.
Note: The term “baseball” was once two words, prior to 1884. It is still used that way in historical context.
