This year, the Vietnamese Lantern Festival celebrates five (5) years of community, culture and connection with a colourful journey through the heart and soul of Southern Vietnam.
Join us at Darwin Waterfront on Saturday, 5 September 2026, from 3 PM to 9 PM, as we travel from the nostalgic streets and timeless charm of old Sài Gòn to the peaceful waterways, tropical orchards and vibrant river life of the Mekong Delta.
Proudly organised by the Australian Vietnamese Family Association Inc. (AVFA), with the valued support of the Northern Territory Government, Darwin Waterfront and other sponsors, this family-friendly celebration invites everyone to experience the warmth, creativity and traditions of Vietnamese culture right here in the Top End.
✨ What to expect:
🏮 A Southern-inspired lantern wonderland: Explore colourful displays bringing the spirit of old Sài Gòn and the Mekong Delta to Darwin Waterfront.
🏮 Cultural performances: Enjoy an exciting program of traditional and contemporary music, dance, storytelling and Vietnamese-Australian performances.
🏮 Kids and family activities: Discover traditional folk games, creative workshops, and many activities for all ages.
🏮 Vietnamese street food: Taste delicious Vietnamese dishes and flavours inspired by the vibrant food culture of Southern Vietnam.
🏮 Floating lotus lantern release: Share a peaceful moment of reflection as glowing lanterns carry wishes of hope, happiness and togetherness across the water.
🏮 Fireworks finale: Finish the evening beneath a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the Darwin Waterfront.
