About this Event
Mrs Wood is London’s most celebrated medium, having survived decades in the competitive world of contacting the Other Side, hosting packed-out séances for Victorian high society.
But, with rival young mediums dazzling audiences across the city, the allure of London’s most established star might be starting to wane. And then, at one of her routine gatherings, she hears something truly terrifying: a yawn.
So, Mrs Wood takes on a young protégé to spice up her show. But does her new pupil pose more of a threat to Mrs Wood’s reputation than she could imagine?
With readings from Lucy Barker and the opportunity to get your questions on the novel answered, join us for a spectacular night of Victorian spiritualism!
You'll also be able to visit our current exhibition 'Lost Victorian City: a London disappeared' to learn more about the Victorian period the novel is set in. A special display of archival material will be available to view exclusively for this event.
'I absolutely ADORED it. Such a juicy read and written so beautifully. Charming, gorgeous, an utter delight.” — Marian Keyes, author of Rachel’s Holiday
'Intriguing, witty and unique. A must read!”— Sophie Irwin, author of A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting
Lucy Barker was the runner-up for the Curtis Brown First Novel Prize with an early partial draft of The Other Side of Mrs. Wood. She holds an MA in Victorian studies from Birkbeck, University of London, and has a passion for uncovering the real lives of women from this period.
