Victoria Folk Night
Madelyn Read
Praised by Americana UK as a “wonderful example of grafting new perspectives onto folk and country roots,” Madelyn Read blends classic country instrumentation with lyrics about growing up in Vancouver, BC to produce a unique alt-country sound. Inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell, First Aid Kit and I’m With Her, Madelyn’s haunting vocals and earnest lyrics evoke a nostalgia for the city while contemplating the challenges of urban life.
Kieran Campbell
Kieran Campbell is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Victoria, British Columbia, now dividing his time between Montréal and Tofino, BC. His music is rooted in alt-folk, influenced by songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and John Prine. Kieran’s sound blends traditional folk storytelling with a modern sensibility, connecting with listeners across generations. Whether in intimate settings or on larger stages, his songs capture a quiet yet powerful presence.
Leah Barley
Vancouver based singer-songwriter Leah Barley’s sharp-eyed, chiaroscuro approach to songwriting is on full display on her latest release Awkward & Heartbroken, (out Feb 2025) which showcases her talent for taking listeners on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. She offers stirring original songs that evoke both the jubilation and heartbreak inherent to classic folk and country music. An accomplished banjo player as well as guitarist, Barley creates a sound as affecting today as it was a century ago.
