Victor Gonzalez

The Sanctuary Studio is delighted to welcome saxophonist, composer, and educator Victor Gonzalez and his quartet for an evening of adventurous, deeply personal contemporary jazz.

For the past several years, Victor has developed a distinctive ensemble dedicated to exploring the limitless possibilities of improvisation and original composition. Featuring a core group of exceptional Southern California musicians, the performance will weave together Victor's original works, inventive arrangements of music that inspires him, and spontaneous explorations that blur the line between composition and improvisation.

Drawing on influences as diverse as jazz, Latin music, ECM, hip-hop, and impressionistic classical traditions, Victor's music is both expansive and deeply expressive—inviting listeners into a world where melody, texture, and collective creativity take centre stage.

A respected performer, composer, and educator throughout Orange County and Los Angeles, Victor leads ensembles ranging from intimate quartets to full big bands. His 2024 album Against All Odds showcases his distinctive compositional voice and commitment to creating music that is both innovative and heartfelt.

Joining Victor for the evening will be Hime Ikehara (piano), Kevin Karagozian (bass), Brad Harris (drums), and, when performing as a quintet, Joe Terry (trumpet).
