Join us on Thursday August 14 at 7pm for a performance of Uzbek Traditional Music by Vancouver Inter-cultural Orchestra featuring: Ravshan Tukhtamishev, Khurshida Djuraeva & Jonathan Bernard.
The performers will be on the side porch of Roedde House Museum which faces the lawn space of Barclay Heritage Square Park. Donations collected will go towards the continuation of our programming and directly supports the artists we engage.

MORE ABOUT THE FEATURED ENSEMBLE
Ravshan Tukhtamishev is a dynamic and innovative artist whose work spans a wide spectrum of musical genres—from traditional Uzbek music to contemporary academic compositions. A master of the chang, Ravshan has expanded the technical and expressive boundaries of the instrument, introducing new playing techniques and sonic textures that have redefined its role in modern performance.
His creative vision and musical versatility have been showcased in numerous performances, particularly through his ongoing collaboration with the acclaimed Omnibus Ensemble, with whom he has taken part in several international festivals.
Through these endeavors, Tukhtamishev continues to bridge cultural traditions with forward-thinking artistry—creating a space where heritage and innovation coexist in harmony.
Khurshida Djuraeva is a traditional Uzbek vocalist. She began her artistic journey with the children’s folklore group Tomosha and graduated from the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, specializing in traditional vocal performance. She has mastered classical styles such as Shashmaqom and Uzbek folk music.
She is a recipient of several prestigious state awards, including the “Nihol” State Award.
Khurshida continues to enrich Uzbek music through her performances and original compositions in both traditional and contemporary national genres.
Juno nominated percussionist Jonathan Bernard combines his background in western percussion with a fascination for Asian and Andalusian traditions to create a unique sound palette incorporating a myriad of instruments, techniques and styles. Jonathan’s interests span genres from orchestral music, to new music, and intercultural music. Having premiered over 100 chamber works, Jonathan has performed with, among others, the Vancouver, Ottawa, Victoria, CBC Radio Orchestras, and is principal percussionist with the Vancouver Island Symphony. He is a member of Turning Point Ensemble, Orchid Ensemble, Sound of Dragon Ensemble, Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra, Sounds Global Ensemble, Lalun, and Naadaleela. Jonathan performed as soloist in Tan Dun’s Water Concerto, and Jin Zhang’s No Rush at Taipei’s National Concert Hall. He has studied traditional and contemporary Chinese percussion in Beijing; Arabic percussion in Cairo; Flamenco Compas in Spain; and Carnatic rhythm in South India, with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and British Columbia Arts Council. Jonathan has toured throughout North America, Europe, Taiwan, Korea, China, and Japan. His numerous nominations and awards include a Juno nomination and Best Producer nomination for the International Independent Music Awards for his recordings with the Orchid Ensemble and the Turning Point Ensemble.
