In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, the Veterans Park Committee proudly announces the dedication of Veterans Park, a permanent site of reflection, honor, and unity for the community. The public is warmly invited to attend this special ceremony on Flag Day, Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Located at the northwest corner of the West View Shopping Center (south of Russell Avenue and east of IHOP), Veterans Park stands as a meaningful tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces and the families who support them.
This commemorative project reflects three core purposes:
• To honor all who have served in defense of our nation
• To Commemorate America’s Semiquincentennial and the enduring spirit of the Declaration of Independence
• To Promote Peace through the installation of a Peace Pole, provided by the Rotary Club of Central Missouri, symbolizing “Peace Through Strength.”
Veterans Park will feature a 25-foot central flagpole displaying the United States and Missouri flags, surrounded by the flags of all six branches of the military, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force, and Coast Guard, as well as the POW/MIA and Peace Corps flags. The site will also showcase dedicated flags honoring the Missouri Air National Guard, the Missouri Army National Guard, and the Kansas Army National Guard. At the heart of the park is the Red, White, and Blue Foundation with seven vertical sprays to symbolize patriotism. Additional elements include a patriotic display of 13 flags, benches dedicated to the Semiquincentennial and the State of Missouri, and thoughtfully landscaped grounds designed to provide a place of reflection for generations to come.
“This park is more than a monument; it is a lasting reminder of what we can accomplish together as a community,” said Jerry W. Franklin, Committee Chairman. “We are proud to recognize Rotary, the VFW, the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Chamber of Commerce, and other valued partners whose collaboration made this project possible. We invite everyone to join us in honoring our veterans and celebrating this historic milestone.”
