Join us for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Ruck Hike, dedicated to supporting veterans and their families while fostering community engagement and encouraging mental health awareness.
This event aims to empower loved ones to recognize early warning signs of mental health challenges and encourage treatment when needed.
The local VFW will be onsite to speak with participating veterans, share information about available services and accompany the hike.
Event Time
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Meeting Location
Prairie Trailhead Parking Lot
Trail Options
Short Route: Prairie Trail + Oak Savannah Loop (approx. 1.1 miles)
Long Route: Prairie Trail, portions of Painted Bunting Trail, and Persimmon Path (approx. 2.7 miles)
Hikers may complete as many laps as they feel comfortable with. Weighted rucks are welcome but not required; participants should provide their own gear.
Participants who choose to ruck are encouraged to carry 17.5 pounds, symbolizing the number of veterans we lose each day to mental health-related illnesses. This weight serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of awareness, support and continued action to protect the well-being of those who have served.
A water station will be available midway along the route.
Guadalupe River State Park will provide the GRIT chair and Axis 40 Track Chair for participants with accessibility needs.
