Summary of event:
Veterans from all branches of military service will spend three days learning the basic fundamentals of “low and slow” smoked meats, i.e., ribs, pulled pork, sausage, etc… then throw their own unique spin on it, for you to try, Sunday, October 13th, starting at 1300 hours (4pm).
Thanks to our Patriotic Sponsors, we will issue each Veteran their own BBQ smoker, then teach them how to properly season it, maintaining a “low and slow” temperature by airflow and fire management, etc...
Contrary to what some may have you believe, there is not “the way” to smoke bbq, there is only "a way.”
Through a Veteran based instructional learning concept, we teach them the basic fundamentals of bbq, and encourage them to find ways to think “outside the box” to create their own recipes from the infinite food source combination possibilities.
This smoked ingredient pairing exploration journey can be therapeutic, especially for our Veterans. This is the foundation of what we do at the Veterans Bbq Camp, a 501C3 non-profit.
During the bbq camp, the Veterans will be given beginner level knowledge to cook various cuts of meat with fire, using indirect heat and smoke. We will not be using gas, propane or any other fire assistance mechanisms. The Veteran Bbq Camp focuses on the primitive cooking concept, utilizing wood, fire, heat, and smoke. It isn’t a convenient method; however, it is a true intimate style of cooking that demands time, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of the “low and slow” cooking methods.
So this is where you, the local Patriotic supporters, come in. After three days of broken down “Barny Style” period of instructions, regarding smoking bbq, we are
opening the event to the public Saturday, giving the Veterans the chance to showcase what they have learned. They will have their own bbq sampling tables, where they can experiment with their unique spin on bbq, for you to try.
100% of the sales for this event will go towards the Veteran BBQ Camp.
We will have multiple Veteran owned profit and non-profit vendors on site, promoting their businesses and providing Veterans with other Veteran based resources.
We will also have a drawing (proceeds fund the BBQ Camp), which will have items from local businesses, as well as some nationwide companies mentioned above.
