The University of Kansas School of Music will present its annual Vespers concerts Dec. 6, with performances at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center of Kansas.
A pre-Vespers concert will precede each performance (at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) at Bales Organ Recital Hall, offering audiences an opportunity to experience additional music before the main program.
A longstanding KU School of Music tradition, Vespers brings together musicians and audiences for an afternoon and evening of choral and instrumental music in a seasonal celebration of the power of music to bring people together.
This year’s program will feature music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Z. Randall Stroope, Bernice Johnson Reagon and Kim André Arnesen, along with arrangements by Mack Wilberg, Robert Appelbaum and Paul Halley. The performances will feature the return of the Lawrence Children’s Choir, whose participation adds another dimension to the collaborative concert.
The KU Flute Choir will join the Vespers program for the first time this year, expanding the event’s instrumental offerings and bringing another ensemble from the School of Music into the tradition.
