Version City Tour: King Django, Brian Hill, Albert Dustin Ash
Ska and Reggae legend King Django (Stubborn All-Stars, Skinnerbox, et al) teams up North Carolina powerhouse Brian Hill (Regatta 69) and Albert Dustin Ash to assemble a dazzling all-star group for coastal Reggae-Rocksteady-Ska parties. These veteran performers will be joined by some of the most talented musicians in the genre.
King Django has toured extensively as the founder and leader of both Stubborn All-Stars and Skinnerbox and sideman for the Slackers, The Toasters, Rancid and Murphy’s Law. He has been running the influential Stubborn Records and Version City labels since 1992. As highlighted in the popular indie documentary “Brooklyn Rocksteady,” Django assembled the Version City recording studio in 1997, which rapidly became the hub of the NYC ska and reggae scene. In 2014 he was invited to perform at the Institute of Jamaica’s Music Museum in Kingston, Jamaica , taking the stage with reggae luminaries Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Ras Michael, Big Youth, and Junior Reid.
Brian Hill’s unmistakable voice, memorable songs and lyrical bass stylings have been the sonic backbone of his internationally touring rock-reggae band Regatta 69. For more than a decade he has been touring extensively throughout the US and Europe, delivering smooth performances of his uplifting songs to audiences in 42 States and 17 countries. Titles from his 12 album releases of rock-infused third wave ska continue to appear on playlists around the world.
Albert Dustin Ash is a premier drummer from the American traditional ska, rocksteady, and reggae, punk rock and garage rock scenes. Renowned for a precise backbeat and deep pocket, he has anchored a number of rhythm sections, most notably serving as a defining drummer for The Slackers. Throughout his career, he has maintained a reputation for abundant live stamina, studio versatility, and a profound affinity for authentic Jamaican roots music.
