About this Event
This event is a collaboration between Michigan Nature Association, Friends of Rouge Park, Michigan DNR, and WOAW
Come learn about the importance of Vernal Pools with a hands-on and family-friendly activity in Rouge Park! While nestled in the forest ecosystem of Detroit's largest park, we will get a chance to monitor this essential ecosystem, look for evidence of macroinvertebrates, contribute to Citizen Science initiatives, learn from each other and enjoy some fresh air together!
Women Owning and Appreciating Woodlands Network (WOAW) is a national movement where the focus is bringing women landowners, women in forest leadership, and all who facilitate the stewardship of forests together through various programming.
****Please note**** This specific Vernal Pool Exploration event is intended for women and gender-diverse individuals. Please only register if you are for sure able to attend as our capacity is limited to 20 people.
Accesibility Considerations:
Our monitoring site is about a 0.3 mile hike in the Rouge Park forest and on uneven and unpaved ground. Please wear long pants and long sleeves to protect against poison ivy and insects. Wear durable, close-toe and comfortable shoes that can handle some mud and uneven terrain. Bring your own waterbottle!
If you or your group is interested in Vernal Pool Exploration in Rouge Park but don't identfiy as women, please contact [email protected] for more info on how to get involved!
