The Moravian Museum invites international visitors to guided tours of the exhibition that offers a truly unique experience: the chance to view the original Venus of Věstonice from all sides.
The figurine is displayed in a rotating mount inside the showcase, allowing visitors to see details that are usually hidden — such as punctures on the head, the shaping of the back, or the imprint of a child’s finger.
The exhibition tells the story of this extraordinary ceramic sculpture, the circumstances of its discovery, the history of archaeological research in Dolní Věstonice, and also presents additional fragments of prehistoric Venuses.
Visitors will also learn about the results of the latest research, which used high-resolution CT scanning. This analysis provides an unprecedented look into the internal structure of the figurine, reveals the materials and techniques used, and uncovers some of the secrets held by the world’s oldest ceramic sculpture.
