Venomous Snake Workshop for First Responders

Join the JSU Field School, the Center for Best Practices in Law Enforcement and VIPER (Venomous Improved Preparedness for Emergency Responders) for a hands-on workshop designed to teach participants how to identify and safely relocate Alabama's venomous snakes. This specialized training will be led by experienced instructors Jimmy Stiles and Raymond Corey.
Participants will gain confidence in:
• Venomous Snake Identification
• General Safety Around Venomous Snakes
• Safe Relocation Techniques
• First Responder Medicine and Bite Protocols
• Expectations of Snakebite Care at the Hospital
CEUs are available.
This is an intensive, full-day course includes hands-on training with live venomous snakes. Participants will learn to use professional snake-handling tools, including hooks, tongs, and buckets, with the goal of confidently identifying and relocating venomous snakes in the field. This workshop is ideal for first responders, outdoor professionals, land managers, utility workers, and anyone whose work may bring them into contact with venomous snakes.
Must be 18 years of age or older to attend.
No additional live snakes may be brought to the class.
All live snakes used during the workshop are presented and handled under proper DCNR permitting.
