A report written on December 18th 1975 by Jennings H. Frederick about his encounter with the Vegetable Man:
“I had been out hunting with my bow & arrows (45 lbs.) and had hunted most of the day: mostly for wood chuck. Not having any luck at hunting, I decided to return home as it was dusk and the sun was setting to my back. After reaching a distance of maybe 1/4 of a Mile from my home; I approached a strip mine area which has since been worked out! Just before I reached this area and after passing a small pond which was located on the property of Mr. Walter Curnutte (Rivesville, West Virginia in Marion County) and which adjoins my Fathers property line, I decided to stop under a few small maple trees in the shade. I withdrew my arrow from my hunting bow and grasped both bow & arrow in my left hand to rest. At this time I heard a jabbering (much like that of a fast running tape recorder). I could hardly understand the wording; but it sounded like this: "Turn around, you need not fear me, I wish to communicate. I come as friends; we know of you all. I come in peace, I wish medical assistance, and need your help! Come; see here I am!!". I paused for maybe a minute; then reached (with my right hand) for a handkerchief from my right rear pocket. Upon bringing my hand up, I was surprised to see what looked like a thin flexible right hand and arm; which the arm was about the size of a quarter dollar and about four feet long. Attached at the end of the arm were three (3) long (about 7 inches in length) fingers with suction cups and needle tips. This hand and arm reached over my right arm and punctured a main blood vessel in my arm. Between the wrist and the elbow on the inner side of the arm. I saw no type of Instruments or needles! This arm was green in color as was the fingers and suction cups. It seemed to "suck” or “withdraw" a blood sample from my arm as it had a suction sound. I was terrified at this minute; it all happened so fast! I turned to see a being (not human at all) or rather a creature! It had human facial features, very large slanted eyes (yellow in color and also red), pointed outstanding ears (upward), and its body was about six to eight (6-8) inches wide or thick and around seven (7) feet tall and all dark green in color. It had two arms and two legs; but only three (large) pointed toes to each foot and three fingers to each hand! The needles at the finger tips were about an inch in length. It sucked on my arm with its suction fingers for about a minute; while I stared in horror! I had pain from this suction action on my right arm; and this being or creature seemed to sense it somehow! His (or its!) eyes began to rotate or appeared to rotate: placing me in kind of a hypnotic trance, at this my pain disappeared! I stood in bewilderment and/or hypnosis; until after a few minutes, this being turned around and left me. Upon leaving he did not walk but leaped about eight (8) feet off the ground in long strides. He cleared a five foot netted fence with about three feet to spare! He ran into a wooded area at the top of a hill above me, about 250 yards from me and disappeared. About five minutes (it could have been less or more, I lost track of time): I heard a humming and a whistling sound (much like a vacuum cleaner) then no more sounds. I made it home around dark; half stunned and with three elongated puncture markes in my right arm (it was bleeding slightly). I told no one what happened and quickly washed my arm and placed a bandage over the wound. I tried to tell myself - "Its just a brier or bush scratch of some kind!". My arm hurt, I was sick to my stomach, and had nightmares for about two (2) weeks afterwards!”i
