We invited our neighbours and community to tell us what matters to them - and now its time to hear what the candidates will say.

Join us on October 1st at John Oliver Secondary School Auditorium for an evening of community dialogue and civic engagement.

Part 1: 4:30PM | Community Symposium

Enter the venue and explore our civic engagement tables where we will share our findings from our listening campaign, Your Voice, Your Vote. The campaign gathered information from 100s of participants and what matter to them. Learn about what matters in your community and visit our How to Vote table for more information on voting.

Part 2: 5:30PM | Candidates Dialogue

Following the symposium, mayoral candidates will participate in a moderated dialogue focused on the three themes that emerged as the highest priorities for community members. Candidates will respond to questions informed directly by what residents shared through the listening campaign and discuss how they would support thriving, connected communities across Vancouver.

While the City of Vancouver plans, regulates, and invests in the infrastructure and services that help create thriving communities, neighbourhood houses help bring those investments to life by connecting people, building relationships, and supporting community well-being. Through this work, we identified six key themes that neighbourhood houses help address through programs, services, partnerships, and community-led initiatives

Moderator: Trudi Goels (she/her) is the co-founder of Ablaze Services Workers Co-op, The Feminist Campaign School, and the co-chair of Women Transforming Cities. A long time community organizer, Trudi is passionate about making our communities into places where we can thrive. She has trained and coached candidates for local government elected positions, advocated for better policies and researched and co-authored a system changing report on the experience of women and gender minorities in local governments that has resulted in policy changes.
While she lives talking about local government, Trudi is equally thrilled to talk about her new found hobby (crochet), where your favourite coffee spot is, or what music you're listening to right now.

Trudi lives and works on the stolen and occupied land of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking people.

Parking

Parking is available in the school parking lot, with additional free street parking along St. George Street and East 43rd Avenue. Accessible parking is available at the rear of the school and provides step-free access to the event. The accessible entrance can be reached via the alley off East 41st Avenue, located on the northeast side of the auditorium.
