Van of Valor: Stories of Courage, Community & Service

Join us on Sunday, August 9 at 4:00pm for an inspiring afternoon with Kevin P. Wallace and L. Wright Wallace, coauthors of Van of Valor and cofounders of the Van of Valor project.
Some of the most extraordinary stories never make the front page. They live in our neighborhoods, around our dinner tables, and in the memories of families who quietly carry them forward. Van of Valor is dedicated to preserving those stories of courage, sacrifice, and everyday heroism before they're lost.
This special event is especially meaningful for West Michigan. While in the area, Kevin and Wright are working with the family of Dr. Barry "Doc" McAlpine to write his biography, honoring the remarkable life of a local hero whose service in Vietnam earned him two Silver Stars and three Purple Hearts. Long before that biography began, Doc's story had already become part of Van of Valor, a testament to the lasting impact one person can have on a community.
Together, the authors will read selections from Van of Valor, share the mission behind collecting America's untold stories, offer a behind-the-scenes look at documenting Doc McAlpine's life, and explore how preserving personal histories strengthens communities for generations to come. The afternoon concludes with a book signing and plenty of time for conversation.
Whether you're interested in military history, biography, local history, or simply believe every life has a story worth preserving, we invite you to join us for this thoughtful and moving conversation.
RSVP needed to ensure seating!
