Vague Rituals are a 3-piece art-punk act, comprised of alumni from Melbourne, Sydney and Portland Oregon’s multifaceted underground punk scenes. Musicians from Australian bands Further, Gentlenemy, Alarms, Villarreal and US bands Drunk Ladies & Stray Heat converge to combine an eclectic array of musical influences and produce their own engaging take on a particular brand of noise-laden, melodic indie-rock.
Across the ten earworm-laden tracks of Vague Rituals, the band crush the post hardcore skate punk of 80’s SST (Husker Du & Dinosaur Jr) with the indie alchemy of Sub Pop100 weirdos like Les Thugs, Sonic Youth, Wipers and Naked Raygun. Vague Rituals deliver a fever-pitched all or nothing response to the current state of affairs that whilst drawing heavily on the 1980’s underground collegiate Americana, sounds like an antipodean missive from the regions. Out of town music like Screamfeeder, Magic Dirt and the Celibate Rifles.
Slashing indie punk rock from the hills. Featuring Leo Coyte from Further (SYD), Vague Rituals pick up where Further left off but the weight of time has frayed the edges. Joined by Matthew Mero on drums and Craig Brown on bass, Vague Rituals hit hard, the hooks rusty and the flow heavy."
