About this Event

In late 1961, in the wake of the Cuban missile crisis, the Kennedy administration sought to prevent Brazil from opening new trade ties with the Soviet bloc. U.S. officials threatened to impose sanctions against Brazil unless it canceled a deal to acquire helicopters from Poland's Communist regime.
