U.S.-India Relations Under Trump 2.0: New Phase, Same Drivers
Building relations with India has found support by both Republican and Democratic presidents for over 20 years. However, each leader has put their unique emphasis on different parts of the relationship. As both countries continue to deepen their ties, India is likely to play an even more significant role in shaping global security, trade, and political dynamics in the coming decades. The U.S. views India not only as a regional partner but also as a key global player in addressing many of the 21st centuryโs most pressing challenges. Mr. Rossow will lay out some of the key policy drivers of the leaders of both nations, where these drivers overlap, and where they diverge.
Richard Rossow is a senior adviser and holds the Chair on India and Emerging Asia Economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). In this role, he helps frame and shape policies to promote greater business and economic engagement between the two countries, with a unique focus on tracking and engaging Indian states. He has been working on U.S.-India relations for over 25 years. He joined CSIS in 2014 after a long career in a range of private sector roles focused on India. Prior to CSIS, he served as director for South Asia at McLarty Associates, leading the firmโs work for clients in India and the neighboring region, and he retains his affiliation with the firm.
Russow's presentation is part of the 2025 Great Decisions program of the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan.
