October 11, 2025, 11:00 AM, Saturday, the public and organizations are invited to a United States Flag Retirement Ceremony at Peplin Memorial VFW Post 8280, 3332 East State Highway 153, Mosinee. A US flag retirement ceremony is a formal, solemn procedure for respectfully disposing of a worn or damaged American flag that is no longer fit for display. The ceremony will be solemn and dignified, including prayers, the Pledge of Allegiance, and patriotic readings to honor the flag as a symbol of the nation's history and sacrifices. The National Anthem will be sung by Sophia Volpe.
Members of various veterans' organizations and Scouts will reverently assist by present the flags for retirement allowing it to be completely consumed by the flames. Currently, there are an estimated 500 flags, including a 40ft X 80ft flag.
A light lunch will be provided for those attending.
Those Veterans' organizations and Scouts wishing to participate should be present no later than 10:30 AM.
