Uruguayan Horror Film: NICO
About this Event
Experience NICO, an award-winning Uruguayan supernatural thriller that has been selected for several international genre film festivals.
Join us for a special screening presented by the Embassy of Uruguay in Canada, in collaboration with Saint Paul University. This free, non-commercial event offers Canadian audiences the opportunity to discover a new generation of Uruguayan cinema through an atmospheric and emotionally powerful story.
Written and directed by Salomón Reyes, NICO follows a grieving mother who gathers her fractured family in the forest where her young son died after being struck by lightning three years earlier. What begins as a memorial ceremony gradually reveals a far more disturbing purpose: an attempt to perform a ritual capable of bringing the child back to life. As the night unfolds, long-buried tensions and supernatural forces threaten everyone present.
Blending psychological suspense, family drama and supernatural horror, NICO has been officially selected at several international horror film festivals and represents one of the newest voices in Uruguayan independent cinema.
The film is presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Recommended for audiences aged 14 and over. Parental discretion is advised.
Admission is free, but registration through Eventbrite is required.
