The Professors of Urgh! podcast hosts Chaki and Chris Slusarenko join special guest Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four for a post-screening discussion of the seminal 1981 concert film.

URGH! A MUSIC WAR, the legendary 1981 concert film capturing the New Music scene at its peak, returns to the big screen for a special one-night screening.
The screening will be followed by a live presentation from The Professors of Urgh!, Chaki and Chris Slusarenko, hosts of the podcast A Very Opinionated Look at Urgh!. Over more than 55 episodes, the pair have explored the origins and legacy of the film, drawing on firsthand conversations with its artists, including Lesley Woods of Au Pairs, Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four, Stan Ridgway of Wall of Voodoo, and Steve Bartek of Oingo Boingo. Burnham will join the Boston event as a special guest. The presentation will also delve into the story behind Invisible Sex, one of the film's most talked-about and mysterious acts.

Widely regarded as one of the essential documents of the late-1970s and early-1980s New Music scene, URGH! A MUSIC WAR has rarely been shown theatrically since its original release. The film captures 34 bands in performance, from well-known acts such as The Police, Devo, X, Joan Jett, XTC, The Go-Go's, and Gary Numan to underground pioneers including Dead Kennedys, Magazine, The Cramps, Pere Ubu, Au Pairs, and Klaus Nomi. Shot and recorded with unusual clarity for its era, the film allows each band to perform in its own authentic style.
About The Professors of Urgh!
Chaki is a Los Angeles-based electro-funk artist, performer, and underground-culture instigator known for heavy bass, synth-driven grooves, and a surreal stage presence. He has toured with El Vez and Fishbone, opened for Parliament-Funkadelic, and performed multiple dates on tour with Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew's Remain in Light touring band. His latest release, From L.A. to the Bay on High Occulture Records, is a career-spanning 12" featuring classic tracks alongside three new songs. Beyond music, Chaki created the Punk Rock Graveyard Tour at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and is a recurring guest on The Best Show with Tom Scharpling.
Chris Slusarenko hosts Revolutions Per Movie, a top-ten Apple Music interview podcast about music films featuring guests such as Peter Buck of R.E.M., Paul Williams, Spiral Stairs of Pavement, and Ann Magnuson and Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall. A lifelong musician with releases on Sub Pop and Rough Trade, he has been a member of Guided By Voices and Eyelids, and has also owned an independent video store for more than 20 years.
