Urban Sketching: Pen, Line & Watercolor
6-Week Saturday Class | Myrtle Beach
Have you ever wanted to capture the world around you in your sketchbook — quickly, loosely, and with confidence?
This 6-week Urban Sketching class is designed to help you let go of perfection, build strong fundamentals, and develop a joyful, expressive sketching practice using pen, pencil, and watercolor.
We’ll begin indoors with simple photo references to learn the basics, then transition to sketching on location as the class progresses.
What You’ll Learn
- Expressive, free-flowing line work
- Basic perspective and bold shapes
- Sketching with pencil and waterproof pen
- Adding color with simple watercolor techniques
- Speed, looseness, and confidence in your sketches
- How to sketch both from photos and real-life scenes
Class Structure
- Classes 1–3:
Indoor sessions focused on fundamentals using instructor-provided photo references - Classes 4–6:
On-location sketching (indoors and outdoors), applying everything you’ve learned
Each class builds on the last, encouraging growth, confidence, and personal style.
Who This Class Is For
- Beginners with little or no sketching experience
- Artists who want to loosen up their line work
- Anyone who wants to start (or return to) a regular sketching practice
- Creatives looking for community and inspiration
No previous urban sketching experience is required.

- Waterproof pen
- Pencil & eraser
- Sketchbook with watercolor paper
- Small travel watercolor kit
- Travel watercolor brushes (2-3 sizes)
- Cup for water
- Portable chair (for on-location sessions)

- Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Location: Vision Arts Gallery, 519 Broadway Street, Myrtle Beach on location classes for weeks 4-6 TBD (exact locations shared closer to class dates)
