Rolando Matias is a percussionist, composer, and Afro-Caribbean musicologist who fuses Latin rhythms, jazz, blues, and Afro-Caribbean traditions in his music. Rolando began playing percussion very young back in his Puerto Rican neighborhood, practicing in “bembes”, spontaneous community jam sessions where Afro-Caribbean rhythms come alive. He founded the group Afro-Rican Ensemble; a band recognized for blending Latin rhythms with jazz harmonies and improvisation.His music represents a true bridge between Afro-Caribbean heritage and modern jazz composition
